Environmental policy

Environmental protection as corporate policy

We understand environmental protection as the careful and conscious use of our planet’s resources, minimizing the health impact on our employees, taking into account the interests of our neighbors, reducing possible emissions from our factory premises, the long-term optimization of our energy use and the development of environmentally friendly products.

Environmental protection is firmly anchored in our corporate policy as a holistic, integrated element, is an integral part of all our activities and influences management, development and investment decisions.

Our environmental policy is binding for all EB employees, suppliers and external companies.

Compliance with and implementation of binding obligations, whether in environmental protection or occupational health and safety, whether specified by customers or ourselves, is a matter of course for us. In order to ensure compliance with legal and official regulations, we monitor the processes and the implementation of new legal regulations in our company.
Our environmental management system has been certified in accordance with the international standard DIN EN ISO 14 001 since 2003 and our energy management system has been certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 50 001 since 2011. Our company has been subject to European emissions trading since January 2013.

This means for our company:

  • Continuous expansion of our ISO 14 001-certified environmental management system and our ISO 50001-certified energy management system, the effectiveness of which is verified by regular monitoring and recertification audits by TÜV.
  • Reducing energy consumption by systematically identifying and eliminating waste, by operating our systems efficiently, by increasing the use of waste heat and by procuring new systems or replacing or modernizing existing ones, taking energy aspects into account.
  • Optimization of the emission situation of our plants, e.g. through new filter technologies
  • Continuous improvement of order and cleanliness in the company
  • Raising our employees' awareness of the environmental impact of our use of energy, input materials, other materials and company facilities
  • Ongoing support from our suppliers for the further development of environmentally friendly and resource-saving products, e.g. lower-emission core binders
  • Investments in the production of lightweight cylinder blocks for CO2-reduced vehicle engines
  • Determining the CO2 emissions of the previous year, reporting to the Federal Environment Agency and surrendering the certificates.
